چکیده
The topological characterization of nonequilibrium matter is highly nontrivial because familiar approaches designed for equilibrium phases may not apply. In the presence crystal symmetry, Floquet insulator states cannot be easily distinguished from normal insulators by a set symmetry eigenvalues at high points in Brillouin zone. This work advocates physically motivated, easy-to-implement approach to enhance analysis distinguish between variety phases. Using two-dimensional inversion-symmetric periodically-driven system as an example, we show that anomalous states, both first-order and second-order, are same atomic insulators. However, can one another inspecting occurrence stable inversion their microscopic dynamics. simple picture understanding how boundary coexist with localized bulk

Anomalous Topological Phases and Unpaired Dirac Cones in Photonic Floquet Topological Insulators.
We propose a class of photonic Floquet topological insulators based on staggered helical lattices and an efficient numerical method for calculating their Floquet band structure. The lattices support anomalous Floquet topological insulator phases with vanishing Chern number and tunable topological transitions. At the critical point of the topological transition, the band structure hosts a single...
متن کاملObservation of photonic anomalous Floquet topological insulators
Topological insulators are a new class of materials that exhibit robust and scatter-free transport along their edges - independently of the fine details of the system and of the edge - due to topological protection. To classify the topological character of two-dimensional systems without additional symmetries, one commonly uses Chern numbers, as their sum computed from all bands below a specifi...
متن کاملFloquet topological semimetal phases of an extended kicked Harper model.
Recent discoveries on topological characterization of gapless systems have attracted interest in both theoretical studies and experimental realizations. Examples of such gapless topological phases are Weyl semimetals, which exhibit three-dimensional (3D) Dirac cones (Weyl points), and nodal line semimetals, which are characterized by line nodes (two bands touching along a line). Inspired by our...
متن کاملClassification of Interacting Topological Floquet Phases in One Dimension
Periodic driving of a quantum system can enable new topological phases with no analog in static systems. In this paper, we systematically classify one-dimensional topological and symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phases in interacting fermionic and bosonic quantum systems subject to periodic driving, which we dub Floquet SPTs (FSPTs). For physical realizations of interacting FSPTs, many-body...
متن کاملExperimental demonstration of anomalous Floquet topological insulator for sound
Time-reversal invariant topological insulator is widely recognized as one of the fundamental discoveries in condensed matter physics, for which the most fascinating hallmark is perhaps a spin-based topological protection, the absence of scattering of conduction electrons with certain spins on matter surface. Recently, it has created a paradigm shift for topological insulators, from electronics ...
